10 Things You Have to Know if You Want Lodging in Italy Without Spending a Fortune

Almost everyone is feeling an economic pinch in the current economy. This may suppress your travel fund, but it does not suppress the desire to do the traveling. So how can you make the most of the situation; maximum fun, minimum spending and bringing home photos of Italy to make all your friends jealous? Because Italy is so tourist oriented the options are numerous here; whether you are in quest of a holiday apartment in Venice, a cheap hotel in Milan or a budget accommodation in Siena; you will find something to make you happy. And there are ways to come back with a few euro still in your pocket.

1.Peak season versus low season - spring and summer are peak season and if you can time your trip to be just outside of those seasons your accommodations can sometimes be up to half off. Certain cities also have small peak periods that push prices through the roof, Venice for Carnivale, Milan for Fashion Week and Siena for Palio are definite budget-busters.

2.Timing of your reservation - both extremes work here. Six months in advance or two days before get you the best prices. A deposit keeps a hotels
cash flow going and a last-minute reservation saves an owner from an empty hotel room.

3.Choosing the least amount of accommodation you need - unless you are on your honeymoon, chances are very little of your time will be spent in your hotel room. There is just too much to see. If you are in Italy for the beauty of the gondolas and canals and food it's better to find a cheap bed and breakfast in Venice instead of spending money on a hotel you only use for sleeping.

4.Use care in the choice of location - in Italy the public transportation is much better than most US cities, you can get virtually anywhere from anywhere with minimal expense and time. Choosing a 3 star hotel in the center of Milan will put you near transportation that can take you through most of Northern Italy in about 2 hours.

5.Booking - If you spend a little extra time booking you can save big. Using the huge assortment of travel sites or clicking on your Skype and calling Italy, checking the options of booking either with or without flight will show you just how big a difference a little extra time can make.

6.To avoid nasty checkout surprises - always verify prior if tax/IVA is included and if the rate is for the room or if there is a per person charge. If you are in a quiet little Siena holiday farmhouse this most likely won't be an issue, but in many midsized hotel it can add 50% to your bill.

7.More than two people - If there are more than two people it can actually cost less per person to rent a suite style room or family style room instead of two double rooms, especially if tip 6 is followed.

8.Comparing transportation costs - sometimes spending just a touch more on your hotel can save you a lot. Buses and trains through all of Italy are a good value, but the cost of taxis can be outlandish.

9.Weekday versus weekend - like most areas finding a good deal is easier midweek. Also many hotels and websites offer deals such as 5th night is free, take advantage of this.

10. Buy a little snack food - the mini-bar is all to tempting at midnight or 2 in the morning.

Italy is one of the top travel destinations in the world. Crisis or no financial crisis. Some of the most beautiful cities on the planet beckon. Whether you chose to return from a day in the canals to a bed and breakfast in San Marco, Venice; return from a day of shopping and people watching to a budget hotel in Milan; or relax all day sipping wine in a Siena holiday farmhouse; it will be an unforgettable journey.

Six of the Best European Walking Holidays

Europe is blessed with some of the finest walking country in the world, and millions of people travel to the great valleys and mountain ranges on the continent every year. Of course, great trekking isn't confined to the continent - there's plenty of outstanding walking to be done in the UK, with the Scottish Highlands, Snowdonia, the Lake District and the Peak District offering spectacular peaks to climb and routes to traverse. But if you are itching to leave the familiar behind and experience some of Europe's finest scenery, here are six of the best routes and destinations for walking holidays in Continental Europe...

Le Tour Du Mont Blanc

Le Tour Du Mont Blanc is a truly stunning walking holiday, an epic 100 mile circumnavigation of the Mont Blanc Massif. It is one of the most famous and popular walks in Europe, taking in high mountain passes, dramatic valley walking and some truly stunning vistas of the major peaks whilst enjoying the hospitality of the Alpine huts along the way. It typically takes two weeks to walk, and while not technically challenging it does demand a good level of fitness and mountain walking experience.

The Haute Route

The other classic route through the Alps, The Haute Route (or "High Route"), stretches from Chamonix to Zermatt, beginning in the shadow on Mont Blanc and ending at the foot of the Matterhorn. With many climbs to high passes it isn't for the fainthearted or inexperienced, but it is one of the most challenging and exciting European trekking holidays. Alternate routes that avoid the glacier crossings are also available.

The Lycian Way

For those who prefer coasts and culture to high mountain adventure, the Lycian Way in Turkey is the perfect walking holiday. This coastal route runs from Fethiye to Antalya, and offers a splendid mixture of beautiful landscapes (cedar forests, pasturelands, and rocky mountain routes) and ancient archaeological sites, including the sunken city at Kekova.

The Dordogne Valley

Located in the South West of France, the Dordogne valley is one of France's national treasures, and is home to one of the country's great walking holidays. The valley is rich in natural splendour, with forests, limestone cliffs and the great river of the Dordogne itself, and the region is peppered with charming traditional towns and medieval castles. There are also many old cave paintings and prehistoric sites in the Dordogne, along with an excellent museum in Les Eyzies.

The Dolomites

While the Alps may be the most famous mountain range for walking holidays, the Dolomites offer a completely different experience - dramatic limestone pillars, glaciers and lunar plateaux stand above rolling meadows filled with wild flowers, and the many routes in and around the Dolomites provide some of the best unspoilt walking to be had in Europe.

The Mountains of Sardinia

Known as "the land of silence", the Italian island of Sardinia offers some of the most remote and peaceful routes for a European walking holiday. The ancient mountain ranges in the north of the island offer visitors stunning walking through the gorges and ridges, as well as the chance to see prehistoric monuments of the Nuraghi people. The perfect weather, friendly island culture, and stunning scenery make Sardinia an ideal destination for a relaxing walking holiday.

A Quick Tour Of Italy - Verona

If you are looking for a European tourist destination, consider the Veneto region of northern Italy on the Gulf of Venice. Venice is its best-known city and one of the most popular tourist destinations on earth. But the Veneto region is a lot more than this great city. There are excellent tourist attractions elsewhere, and you won't have to fight the huge crowds. With a little luck you'll avoid tourist traps, and come back home with the feeling that you have truly visited Italy. This article examines tourist attractions in the Shakespearean town of Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be sure to read our companion articles on northern Veneto, southern Veneto, and the university city of Padua. Verona boasts many vestiges from Roman times. Its Roman amphitheatre is the third largest in Italy and its interior is virtually intact. This edifice hosts fairs, theatre, opera and other public events, especially summers.

The Roman arch bridge over the Adige River was partially destroyed in World War II and then rebuilt using original materials. The Twelfth Century Romanesque Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore sits on a Fourth Century shrine dedicated to the city's patron saint, St. Zeno. Its splendid one hundred ten foot bell tower was mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy. The vaulted crypt holds the tomb of St. Zeno and tombs of several other saints.

Verona's largest church is the Fifteenth Century Sant'Anastasia whose interior is an excellent example of Gothic architecture. Items of honor include frescoes and hunchback statues that dispense holy water. The Fourteenth Century Castelvecchio on the banks of the Adige River sits on what is probably the site of a Roman fortress. Its art museum specializes in Venetian painters and sculptors.

Verona's squares include the Roman Herb Square that still maintains its medieval look and some produce stalls. The Gentlemen's Square is Verona's center of activities. Next door is the Scaglieri Palace, once home to the ruling family. Don't leave Verona without visiting those star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The Twelfth Century Casi di Giulietta (Juliet's House) long belonged to the Dal Cappello family and since Cappello sounds like Capulet perhaps... The house at Via Cappello, 23 with its courtyard is most likely not the real thing, but crowds come to gawk and dream. This could be the place to propose. Verona's cuisine features typical Po Valley dishes: mixed boiled meats, nervetti (calf's foot and veal shank salad), and risotto, often cooked in Amarone wine. Valpolicella DOC is a world famous, and yet often mediocre wine produced north of Verona. It can be transformed into fine wines including Valpolicella Ripasso and Amarone DOC.

What Are The Advantages Of Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance is usually the last thing on people's mind when they are booking a trip, but can turn out to be the most important thing to have when you are in a crisis situation. Here are some advantages of booking travel insurance:

1. Medical Care: The most obvious advantage is that if you fall sick on your trip, you will be covered for any medical care you need. Make sure you understand the limitations in your policy, as some have upper limits for the amount they will pay.

2. Medical Transport: Most insurance policies will pay for you to be transported to a medical establishment, such as by road or air ambulance.

3. Repatriation: Insurance will also pay for the cost to be returned to your home country after your medical treatment, along with a medical professional. This also covers the transport of your remains if you die while abroad.

4. Medical Evacuation: In the event of you being extremely sick and there not being a good hospital where you are, you will be evacuated to the nearest good hospital for treatment, even if this means taking you to another country.

5. Hospital Incidentals: This covers incidental costs while you are a patient in a hospital. This is only given after a minimum length of stay and also has an upper limit on the amount you can claim.

6. Cancellation or trip interruption: This covers any costs of you having to change the duration of your trip, such as flight changes etc. This includes a death in the family, or something happening to your home, such as fire.

7. Missed Flights: This covers all added costs if you miss your flight back home. This will help you get the first possible flight back, as well as cover any extra costs of changing flights or hotel stays.

8. Personal Liability: This gives you cover in case you hurt a third party or damage any property.

9. Legal Expenses: There is usually some sort of cover provided if you have to get involved in litigation while on your visit.

10. Personal Accident: This means that if you get hurt or die during your trip, you will be given some amount of money.

11. Personal Baggage: This covers your belongings while on the trip. If you lose a bag, a laptop or any other belongings, you can claim compensation for it. This is usually accompanied with information on the maximum amounts you can claim, for instance on jewellery.

All of these are advantages of carrying travel insurance, however, the covers given to you under different policies vary, and so make sure you read the fine print before you sign any documents or pay for your cover. Depending on where you are going, and how long you are going for, you will be required to pay different amounts. So, it may be more expensive to buy travel insurance for a dangerous country, as compared to a country with low crime rate.

How to Enjoy a Family Holiday in Devon

Devon is one of the most popular UK destinations for family holidays and the tourism industry caters for families throughout the county. With the credit crunch meaning that the pound is much weaker against the Euro and the Dollar, UK destinations are particularly popular this year and bookings in Devon are already seeing an increase on last year's figures.

To enjoy a family holiday in Devon, a little bit of planning before you set off will make sure that the entire family has a holiday to remember. If you have chosen self-catering accommodation, make sure you have everything you need. A quick phone call to the provider will ensure that essential items such as towels are provided or if you have to pack your own. If you have very young children, you can also check to see if essential equipment such as high chairs, prams and cots are available at your accommodation. It also pays to check if outdoor features such as ponds have childproof covers and that the accommodation is fitted with stair-gates or childproof locks.

One of the great benefits of a family holiday in Devon is the opportunity to go exploring. With miles of beaches and coastal paths and plenty of moorland walks, a good pair of walking shoes is essential. If you're visiting Devon out of season, it might also be a good idea to pack a pair of Wellington boots in case the going gets a little muddy!

Because there's so much to see and do in the county, the best way to make sure that you enjoy a family holiday in Devon is to do a little pre-planning before you set off. A quick check on the Internet will give you full listings of the attractions in the area you are staying in, opening times of theme parks and zoos and ticket prices. Booking a family ticket in advance can save you time queuing at the attraction on the day and even save you money.

One of the worst things about family holidays is having to leave a beloved pet behind. Many accommodation providers in Devon are dog friendly, so if you want to take your pet with you check to find out which locations welcome dogs and your pet will be able to enjoy the family holiday as well. It also cuts out the costs of any boarding kennel fees, which could easily fund an extra visit to an attraction for the entire family.

Once you've reached your destination, it's a good idea to make sure that your car has a full tank of petrol, especially if your accommodation is on the more remote areas of Dartmoor or Exmoor. Petrol stations are sometimes difficult to find in the more rural areas and there's nothing worse than running out of petrol with a car full of tired children! Before you set off on your holiday, also check to make sure that your car is fully maintained, that the battery is charged and that there's that all-important spare tyre in the boot.

Mobile phone coverage can be sporadic in the more remote locations, but most of Devon is well covered. Don't forget to take your phone charger as well as your phone so that you have some means of communication in an emergency.

Devon is one of the most beautiful and welcoming parts of the UK and ideal for a family holiday at any time of the year. The clement weather, fabulous scenery and rich variety of things to do and see mean that, with a few simple pre-checks before you set out and a little bit of planning, every member of your family is guaranteed to enjoy a family holiday in Devon.

Staying Active in Varadero

If you want to relax on one of the finest beaches in the Caribbean, you need look no further than Varadero, the largest beach resort in Cuba. This long stretch of golden sand is simply stunning, and the numerous resort hotels in Varadero will leave you spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting your accommodation.

It can be tempting to do nothing more than lie on the sand during a Varadero holiday, and while the beach itself is likely to remain the main focus of your trip, it is hardly the only thing to do in and around the resort.

So if you'd like to stray beyond the sun loungers and parasols, here are five exciting experiences to be had whilst on a holiday to Varadero...

Go diving in the tropical waters

The Cuban coast is a paradise for scuba divers. The warm clear waters provide ideal year round conditions for diving, and the thick coral reefs and shoals of tropical fish are a wonder to explore. There are numerous dive centres in around the resort, and many of Varadero's hotels feature their own dedicated diving centres. Beginners can get qualified quickly and relatively cheaply, so holidays to Varadero are the ideal time to learn how to dive.

Take a day trip to Havana

No holiday in Cuba is complete without a trip to Havana. The Cuban capital is filled with spectacular colonial architecture, and the vibrant blend of African, Caribbean and Spanish cultures make it a truly unforgettable place to visit. It can be visited in a single day from Varadero, but to explore the capital at leisure, it is perhaps best to stay in Havana before or after your holiday to Varadero.

Play a round of golf at the Varadero Golf Club

Golfers on holidays to Varadero don't need to let their game get rusty - Cuba's only 18 hole golf course is located at the Xanadu mansion just next to the resort. Just because it is the only golf course in Cuba doesn't mean they've let the quality slip; this championship level coastal course is a delight to look upon and a wonder to play, offering stunning sea views and a challenging round of golf.

Enjoy a candlelit dinner at La Gruta del Vino

Many of the hotels in Varadero offer all inclusive deals, but you should stray outside of your hotel for the occasional meal in one of the resort's many fine restaurants. La Gruta del Vino in Josone Park is perhaps the most romantic and characterful place for a meal in Varadero. This small and intimate restaurant, situated in a cave alongside a lake, is a truly unique eatery, and the cuisine matches the appearance - massive, perfectly cooked seafood dishes and a truly outstanding wine selection makes this one of the best restaurants in Varadero.

Take a tour of Cardenas by horse drawn carriage

The picturesque city of Cardenas is only a short distance from Varadero, and is a great place for a daytrip. The best way to get around is by horse drawn carriage, from which you can admire the fine architecture of the city. Don't miss out on the Parque Colon, where the Cuban national flag was flown for the first time. Other highlights include a striking bronze statue of Colombus, and the Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepcion.

The beach may be your main port of call on a holiday to Varadero, but any of these activities can be a great way to break up your holiday an experience a little more of the fascinating Cuban culture...an attraction at least as appealing as the beach!

The Caribbean, as well as the island of Jamaica is safe to visit. With that said, you need to be cautious. Safety is always important when traveling, whether you leave the country or not. Do not carry expensive valuables with you; stay in areas designed for tourists, always let someone know where you are, and so forth. Follow these tips and you will have a fun and safe trip.

Question: What are my overnight accommodation options?

Answer: When it comes to the Caribbean, you also have many staying options. There are traditional hotels, vacation rentals, vacation resorts, and all-inclusive resorts. You should take a number of factors into consideration when making your decision. Once again, consider your personal preferences, location, onsite services and facilities, as well as costs.

Question: Where should I stay on my vacation?

Answer: As previously stated, you should consider costs, likes and dislikes, and location. You should have Caribbean hotels, vacation resorts, vacation rentals, and inclusive resorts to choose from. Still, know that all-inclusive resorts come highly rated and recommended. In fact, they are one of the reasons why the Caribbean is one of the world's most popular vacation destinations!

Question: Should I book my vacation as an all-inclusive Caribbean vacation?

Answer. Yes! As previously stated, all-inclusive Caribbean resorts come highly rated and recommended. This is because they have many benefits. The greatest being the time and money saved. A stay at an all-inclusive resort includes the cost of room, qualifying airport transfers, tips, food, drinks, and some forms of onsite entertainment. Essentially, one travel arrangement preplans and prepays for a good percentage of your trip. By making use of resort inclusions and then comparing their costs individually, most travelers are surprised to see they saved a considerable amount of money by opting for an all-inclusive travel package.

Question: Should I make my airline reservations separately?

Answer: When booking an all-inclusive Caribbean vacation, you will have the option to include airfare. In most cases, this is optional. Before opting for or deciding against, compare prices. Is it cheaper to book your airline reservations through the travel package or separately? Opt for the cheapest option.

Question: Do I need a passport?

Answer: Yes, if you are traveling from the United States. A passport is required to travel to and from the Caribbean by air from the United States. If you do not have a valid passport, order yours, but give yourself time. It can take up to two months for your new passport to arrive.

Question: Do I need to exchange currency before leaving?

Answer: It is not required, but it depends on your personal preferences and the currency in question. If you have access to a currency exchange center, start out small. This may allow you to tip helpers at the airport. However, it is not required. In fact, the Caribbean is home to many currency exchange centers, some of which are located on the grounds of well-known resorts. Many stores and restaurants also accept international credit and bankcards.

Question: What should I pack for my trip?

Answer: You should start packing for your trip at least two to three days in advance. This is for clothing. When doing so, check the weather and pack accordingly. Before that time, start preparing your needed documents. As previously stated, a valid passport is required. Next, have another form of identification, such as a driver's license. Pack your health insurance documents and get all needed prescriptions filled ahead of time.

All-Inclusive Resorts in Jamaica: How to Choose the Best

If you are planning a trip to Jamaica, you have many overnight accommodation options. There are vacation rentals, hotels, and resorts. There is no shortage of all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica. Most come highly rated and recommended, but you want to have the vacation of your dreams. For that to happen, you must choose the perfect inclusive resort. How can you do so? By taking the factors listed below into consideration.

The purpose of your trip. The purpose of your trip should have a significant impact on your all-inclusive resort. Why? Because Jamaica resorts come in a number of different styles and some are even themed. There are adult only resorts and resorts classified as family resorts. Somewhere in between, are those that cater to individuals of all ages. If your trip to Jamaica is a family vacation, a family resort with a kid sized swimming pool, onsite playground, and scheduled events for children is recommended. If traveling to Jamaica for a honeymoon or a romantic getaway, an adult only resort is advised. With these resorts, you get to be romantic and carefree without having a five-year watching your every move from across the pool.

Your traveling party. As with the purpose of your trip, consider the ages of those you travel to Jamaica with. If you are traveling with a group of friends, is everyone over the age of 18? If not, your all-inclusive resort options may be limited. As previously stated, there are family resorts, adult only resorts, and resorts designed for individuals of all ages. If traveling with minors, keep a close eye on age restrictions. Automatically eliminate hotels and resorts that you cannot stay at.

Resort inclusions. There are many hotels and all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica. All-inclusive resorts come highly rated and recommended because of inclusions. These are things included in the cost of your stay. At a traditional hotel, you gain access to a swimming pool and fitness center, but that is about it. Yes, it does cost more, but a stay at an all-inclusive resort includes the cost of room, tips, food, drinks, and some forms of onsite entertainment. This onsite entertainment varies, but consider what you hope to accomplish. Have you always wanted to snorkel? Opt for an all-inclusive beachfront resort where you can snorkel without paying an additional fee!

The services and facilities offered to guests. When focusing on services and facilities, it is important to separate inclusions from non-inclusions. There are additional facilities and services offered to guests that may cost more. For example, at a family resort you may need to pay a small fee for childcare. At a Jamaica resort with an onsite golf course, your green fees may be included in your stay, but you may still need to rent a golf cart or hire a caddie.

If you want to sightsee. When it comes to Jamaica vacations, there are two types of tourists. They are those who want to stay on the resort and those who want to get out and explore the island. If you want to limit your travel time and cost, choose your resort carefully. You want a resort that is filled with inclusions you will use, such as multiple restaurants, a large swimming pool, a beautiful beach, rentals for water sports, and more. If you don't want to leave your Jamaica resort, ensure there is enough available onsite to keep you occupied. If you want to get out and sightsee, opt for a conveniently located resort to limit your travel time and expenses.

How much you can afford. As previously stated, all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica include the cost of room, food, drinks, tips, and onsite entertainment. For that reason, you will pay more. With that said, you get a better value for your money in the end. Since inclusive resorts do vary, price compare. See what resorts you can afford and then base your choice on preference. When doing so, be sure to examine all nearby resorts, experiment with your travel dates, and so forth. Doing so allows you to save the most money.

Why Take a Cruise Vacation?

Holiday season is the time of the year when people travel and enjoy a great vacation anywhere in the world. Holiday makers usually go to a place, check in a hotel, and roam around the tourist attraction of such place. An alternative to this during holidays is taking a cruise. So what's good about taking a cruise? Why people go for it instead of booking for a hotel and enjoy a holiday at a certain place?

Usually, an all inclusive holiday for a cruise only offer buffets. There are a variety of cuisine that can be offered on a cruise, even the very elite ones. But even the gourmet meals that are offered on a least expensive cruise are well worth it already. That's one thing that makes a cruise a best one to take for a holiday. In just a single cruise you can enjoy linguini and clams on your first night, filet mignon on the next, and maybe lobster or beef wellington on the third if that suits you.

One draw back on a holiday cruise could be the price of the alcoholic beverages. But this is not a big thing to worry if you don't have plans of spending your vacation with a hangover.

Entertainment is one thing that cannot be taken for granted during a holiday vacation. Everyone wants that and a cruise has trained, auditioned, and practiced performers. They are experienced dancers and singers who have at some point performed in Toronto, Broadway and other entertainmenthot spots . Meanwhile if you visit and stay on a resort on your holiday vacation instead of taking a cruise, you will usually find yourself entertained by the resort staff - the same ones who made your bed and cleaned your table. This case is one advantage of taking a cruise rather than staying in a resort.

Once you embark on your cruise ship, it is just the beginning. When you set sail on your floating resort, you will then have a number of exotic destinations as opposed to a one location only when you stay on a hotel during your holiday vacation. You will be visiting about three to five entirely different places on an average seven day cruise. You may find yourself in Mexico today and the Cayman Islands tomorrow. You can see St. Thomas, then Tortola, and the Turks and Caicos islands if you take an Eastern Caribbean cruise. You might think that there will be too many places but there's a little time for you to explore each of them. You don't have to worry because you will be given lots of time to explore these places. Usually, the ships wait for 12 to 14 hours at the port. Though the ship will leave at the exact time without you so you really have to avoid getting late or else you have to go in your own to the next port of call.

These are just a few advantages of taking a cruise instead of spending your whole holiday vacation at a resort.

A Guide to an All-Inclusive Cruise

The trend for a cruise that was originally an all inclusive holiday, has been changing into a more and more extras to be paid for. Most all inclusive packages today doesn't seem to really include "all." There are some extras that they do not include in the original price of the deal and you have to pay for it if you want to avail of one. That's why you really have to look carefully when you choose your all inclusive package. Make sure that all are really included in that package.

Purchasing an all inclusive package frees you from all the hard work and hassle of going into each company one by one and pay for everything you need. With an all inclusive holiday package you don't have to reach for your walletevery time you need something. Instead, you can just sit back and relax during your holiday vacation and will just have fewer extras to add to the cost of your holiday plus you will have a clear control of your budget. This is the reason why all inclusive holiday packages are popular these days.

This trend, however, does not seem to include most cruises. They are mostly not all-inclusive. They only include meals and on-board entertainment. Other services or extras are not included like drinks, shore excursions, and snacks which are paid for separately. For instance, only cruise fare accommodation, meals and entertainment on board ship are included in your package. Sometimes, their specialty restaurants have cover charges, and some a la carte items are only available at a surcharge. Usually, facilities like spa, indoor pool, and services such as laundry, internet access, and some drinks and shore excursions are not included in your holiday package.

Though there are other cruises that put more emphasis on the word "all-inclusive" which include the connecting flights to get you to your ship and back to your home, hotel accommodations that will be required on shore, all drinks including selected wine, champagne, beer, etc, all on board gratuities and tips, and all port charges and transfers. This will actually leave you with no worries as you sail along except when you go shopping. These are the cruises that you should be looking for.

So this is for everyone to take heed of the cruises that are advertised as an all-inclusive one as there are a lot in the internet. Inspect what are the only things included in the package for there may be other things not included like spa treatments and drinks. Before you book for an all inclusive cruises, you should take a good look first at it and what is included in it so that you won't get surprised when you get to the cruise ship. Highlights of a Holiday in Kalkan (Turkey)

Turkey's glorious coast is becoming one of the top beach destinations in Europe - unbeatable summer weather, sophisticated resorts, and, of course, a great selection of some truly stunning beaches. Selecting a resort can be a real challenge with so many to choose from. Belek is the place of choice for golf fans and Marmaris for the party crowd, but for those looking for somewhere characterful and relaxing, it is hard to beat a holiday in Kalkan. Located between Fethiye and Kas, this charming resort has plenty of highlights that make it stand out from the crowd...

The Resort Itself

Unlike some of the more crowded resorts, Kalkan has a low key character that is perfect for a relaxing break - it is especially popular amongst couples looking for a romantic holiday. Kalkan used to be a fishing village, and still has a laid back charm and individual character that really makes it stand out from some of the other Turkish resorts.

Built on a hillside, the cobbled streets and old buildings are a delight to explore on foot, and the town is famed for the quality and number of its restaurants. Many of the best restaurants have rooftop terraces, where you can enjoy fine Turkish cuisine and a glass of raki as you enjoy glorious views out across the bay.

Beautiful Beaches

The resort has its own rocky pebble beach, but the real highlights are just a short distance away: Kaputas and Patara are both easily accessible for those on a holiday to Kalkan, and they are two of the finest beaches in Turkey, only twenty minutes from the resort. Those willing to travel further afield may want to venture to the lagoon beach at Oludeniz, an unspoilt stretch of sand that is perhaps the most beautiful beach in the country.

Local Historical Sights

A holiday in Kalkan is more than enough to keep you entertained even if you never leave the resort, but if you want to combine relaxation with a spot of ancient culture, the resort is well positioned for short trips to some of the most important local sites - the castle at Simena, the sunken city of Kekova and the many architectural delights of Ephesus are all within easy reach of Kalkan.

The Stunning Harbour

If you go on a holiday in Kalkan, it's likely that the harbour is going to be where you spend much of your time - it is the centre of life in the resort. The beautiful bay is a delight to look upon and Kalkan is a regular stopping point for spectacular yachts and sailing vessels. The harbour also offers plenty of activities: don't miss out on a gullet cruise to explore the bay and neighbouring islands, or just enjoy a meal on the sea on one of the many floating restaurants in Kalkan's harbour.

It won't be to everyone's tastes, but if you are looking for a relaxing and romantic coastal break on Turkey's coast, it is hard to beat a holiday in Kalkan.

The Five Essential Sights of Morocco

Morocco is one of the most fascinating destinations to visit on a holiday to North Africa. Culturally, it is a heady mixture of Arabic, North African, Berber and French Colonial influences, and haggling in souks, enjoying fine French cuisine, wandering through medieval medinas, camel trips to the desert, and trekking through the High Atlas Mountains are just some of the experiences on offer. There's so much to see and do in the cities and the countryside that it can be hard to narrow down the choices for your trip, but if you are after the very essential sights to see on a holiday to Morocco, look no further than these five...

The Fez Medina

The medina, or "Old Town", of Fez is perhaps the best preserved medieval city in the world. It was built in the 14th century, and aside from the introduction of electric lighting, little seems to have changed in the six hundred years.
Traditional craftsmen still make and ply their wares in one room workshops, and overburdened donkeys are still the only form of transport that can be used in the Medina. The narrow winding streets are a maze for the unwary, and taking a half or full day guided tour may be the best way to see all the sights the Fez medina has to offer on your holiday in Morocco.

Ait Benhaddou

Ait Benhaddou is a series of old Kasbahs located near Ouarzazate, and this fort town is in a stunning position amidst rocky hills and palm trees. Ait Benhaddou has been the backdrop for numerous films, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator, and the nearby film studio in Ouarzazate is now one of the largest studios in the world. It is one of the most popular sights to see while on holiday in Morocco, and it is definitely worth making the time and taking a day trip here.

The Djemma el Fna in Marrakech

Translated variously as "The Mosque of Nothing" and "The Assembly of the Dead", the central square in Marrakech is perhaps the most unforgettable sight to see while on holiday in Morocco. By day it is a market, with fruit sellers, fortune tellers, henna painters and snake charmers, but it is by night that it really comes to life. Crowds of Moroccans surge around the storytellers and musicians on the south side of the square, while the traditional medicine men and dentists who populate the north side continue to serve the needs of the locals; it is one of the most remarkable sights in the country.

The Town of Chefchaouen

This delightful blue-walled town is one of the most beautiful small towns in North Africa. A holiday here offers perfect relaxation - hiking in the Rif Mountains that surround the city, haggling in the little market at the centre of town, sipping mint tea in the many little cafes, or simply wandering through the streets and enjoying the unusual sky blue buildings.

Ramparts of Essaouira

The port city of Essaouira, located a few hours from Marrakech, is fast becoming one of the holiday highlights of Morocco. The relaxed coastal atmosphere, beautiful old medina and dramatic coastline are all attractions of the city, but the real highlight is the set of old ramparts that run along the seafront. Walking the old fortifications, complete with 17th century cannons, is like talking a walk in time through the city's colonial history - the architecture is a beguiling mixture of Portuguese, French and Berber styles, and the views are simply spectacular.

Seven Wonders of a Holiday in Egypt

The Seven Wonders of the World, as recorded by the Greek historian Herodotus, were the "see before you die" sights of the Ancient World; the Colossus of Rhodes, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, and many other strange and wonderful sights. Today, they are all destroyed except for one - the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Since it lays claim to the only remaining Wonder and it remains the number one destination for holidays in North Africa, it only seems appropriate to list the seven present day wonders of a holiday to Egypt, from beautiful beaches to sites of amazing historical significance...

The Archaeological Museum at Cairo

In a country that is famed for its archaeological wonders, it is no surprise that Egypt's capital contains one of the finest archaeological museums in the world. Home to over 120,000 ancient artefacts, including the death mask of Tutankhamen and a number of mummies, it is one of the real highlights of a holiday in Egypt.

The Beaches on the Red Sea

Not only is Egypt a place to see ancient sights, it has become renowned as a beach destination. The stunning beaches at Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh are popular with families and couples alike, and the resort hotels are amongst the finest in the country.

Walking Up Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai is steeped in history. Located in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, it is believed by many to be the Biblical mountain where Moses received the Ten Commandments, it has become a significant pilgrimage site for Christians and Jews. The monastery of St Catherine's at the foot of the mountain contains numerous relics and artefacts, but it is the walk up to the top of the mountain that is the real attraction here. The view from the top offers stunning views out over the monastery and the Sinai desert, and you can even pay a visit to Moses' Cave, where the leader of the Israelites is alleged to have waited for the Commandments to be delivered to him.

Valley of the Kings

This ancient burial ground for the Kings of Egypt, located near Luxor, is one of the most unforgettable sights in North Africa. Holidays here are justly popular, with visitors treated to over sixty ancient tombs, including the famous burial site of Tutankhamen.

Nile Cruise

The Nile is the main artery of Egypt, the fertile source of life in the country which has allowed civilisation to thrive in the midst of a truly inhospitable environment. Most of the main destinations in the country are located along the coast of the Nile, and one of the most enjoyable ways to spend your time on a holiday to Egypt is on a luxury cruise on the Nile.

Diving in the Red Sea

Egypt truly is a scuba divers Mecca, with countless outstanding dive sights around the Red Sea resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. Colourful reefs, tropical fish and underground coral caves are just some of the sights to see in this underwater paradise. Recommended dive sites include Soma Bay and Shark Bay (don't worry, the latter dive site doesn't live up to its name!)

The Pyramids at Giza

Of course, the only surviving Wonder has to top the present day list! Perhaps the most famous archaeological sight in the world, these tombs for Pharaohs remain the essential place to visit on a holiday to Egypt. The dramatic Sol et Luminat show, held each night at the Giza Pyramids, remains a firm favourite with many visitors - a stunning sound and light show, narrated by Omar Sharif, it is the perfect way to truly appreciate the last remaining Wonder of the World.

Rochester Minnesota Arts and Entertainment

For a number of years, Rochester, MN has been labeled as one of America's finest cities for newly weds. One of the reasons for this label could be the wide variety of activities that stray from the ordinary dinner and a movie date night. Rochester is home to a variety of art centers and theatres, and offers musical performances throughout the year. The arts and entertainment found in Rochester helps to demonstrate that this is a city that understands the importance of the abstract side of life.
If one is seeking to view an art gallery or museum, there are four popular options to choose from in Rochester:

- Rochester Art Center - Newly remodeled and moved in May 2004, the Art Center is a relatively small center which holds no permanent collections inside. Instead, the center hosts a variety of temporary travelling collections which change throughout the year. Nearby, the outdoor Zumbro Gardens is a terraced park and sculpture lawn which leads down to the edge of the Zumbro River.

- SEMVA Art Gallery - The South East Minnesota Visual Artists Gallery, located in the Peace Plaza in downtown Rochester, offers mainly works from southeastern Minnesota Artists. The variety of works includes pottery, woods, clothing, fabrics, and canvas displays.

- Mayowood Galleries - Fine antiques and gardent accents from 18th and 19th century England can be found at Mayowood Galleries. Two locations are available, at the Mayowood Mansion and downtown Rochester.

- History Center of Olmsted County - For more of a historical display, the History Center offers a Histry Library, a Genealogy Center, as well as a display of the history of Rochester and the surrounding area. The History Center also owns and operates Mayowood Mansion.
After a morning or afternoon of visiting an art gallery or museum, the possibility exists to view a live production at one of the three theatres in Rochester:

- Masque Youth Theatre - The Masque presents a variety of children's plays from October to June. The goal of the Masque is to involve young people in theatre arts, and it successfully does that by using children as actors and providing plays that would interest the child found in everyone.

- Rochester Civic Theatre - A variety of perfomances can be found at the Civic Theatre. The venue offers nine perfomances a year, including dramas, comedies, and musicals. Previous shows have included Fiddler on the Roof and The Adventures of Stuart Little.

- Rochester Repertory Theatre - The Repertory Theatre offers performances of classical and contemporary works by a variety of artists. Some previous shows have included Three Tall Women, The Foreigner and FoxFire.

Rochester's music scene also offers a wide variety of options. Apart from the countless restaurants, bars, and pubs that offer live music free of charge on various nights, there are a few large groups that perform in Rochester throughout the year. These groups are comprised of members of the community, sharing their talents in order to give back to the city they call home. The list below offers a glimpse at the musical choices of Rochester. It is by no means the only groups and performances available.

- Rochester Civic Music - Presented by the City of Rochester, free live music is offered to the community through the "Down By the Riverside" outdoor summer concert series. Artists have included Three Dog Night, Peter Fischer, The Marshall Tucker Band, and many local acts.

- Rochester Symphony Orchestra & Chorale - Jere Lantz, music director and conductor, leads this group's perfomances of a variety of works through the year.

- Rochester Community Band - Offering quarterly performances, and a few additional sumer festivals, the Community band is open to all people, regardless of skill level. The band emphasis lies on using your talents and having fun while performing modern and classic music.

Barcelona Travel Tips- A Guide to Geting Around

Barcelona has a public transport system that is an absolute delight for visitors to this spectacular city.

The totally integrated system allows you to get around cheaply and easily for 24 hours a day. The Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona is the organisation which is responsible for co-ordinating not only the city's Metro and bus systems but also the trams and local train services.

By far the quickest way to travel around the Catalan capital city is by the truly excellent Metro system, with an easy to follow colour-coded route map that comes as a blessed relief to those more used to trying to decipher London's underground maps. There are more than enough stations - you're never very far from one wherever your wanderings take you - and they are easily identifiable by the signs with the blue letter M inside the red diamond. A single ride will cost you 1.25 - but, as we shall see later - there are some very good deals to be had.

The bus routes - and there are more than 80 lines across the city - may not be as quick as the Metro but they certainly offer an easy method of seeing the many architectural splendours - ranging from the bizarre Gaudi inspired architecture to the more classically inspired splendours the city can provide. The bus stops are at red signs with brown benches underneath a small roof and almost all of the buses in Barcelona are now wheelchair accessible, with many having wheelchairs lifts. For late-nighters, Barcelona provides a comprehensive night service, the Nitbus, which operates until 4.30 in the morning and goes past most of the popular night venues - some can even take you straight to the airport.

You can pick up free maps showing all the city's bus and Metro lines - including the Nitbus - at tourist offices and Metro stations - and hotels often have them. The Tourist and Leisure Cards which offer significant savings on fares are available at TMB Customer Service centres, Metro stations, Newsagents, Tourist Information Offices and even at Lottery selling outlets. A two day card offering unlimited use costs 10.70, a three day card 14.30 and a five day 23.10 - and remember that they're valid for all the TMB services.

Of course, Barcelona also has its share of taxis for those who prefer this mode of transport or who have luggage they need to stow. Barcelona cabs are easily recognised by their black and yellow colouring and, of course, have the green light on the roof which indicates they are 'libre' - lliure in Catalan. If the light is yellow, then the taxi is unavailable for hire or occupied. Currently there is a minimum fare of 1.80, with rates at 0.82 per kilometre or 1.04 per kilometre at nights and weekends. Obviously you can expect surcharges for luggage, etc and, if you're looking to travel from the airport by cab, the minimum charge is 15.00, with 1 for every item of luggage.

With regard to taxis, it's as well to remember, though, that much of the centre of Barcelona is pedestrianised and allows access only to buses, so there are some places taxis cannot take you.

Barcelona is considered, justifiably, one of Europe's most attractive destinations - combining, as it does, beach and city, ancient and modern, local and international. As befits such a venue, the public transport systems are in place to ensure that visitors can really make the most of their time there

Yacht Charter in the Caribbean

Whether or not you have prior experience of sailing, if you are planning a trip to the West Indies you would be well advised to consider the advantages of Caribbean yacht charter.

With more than seven thousand islands to discover, it would take a lifetime to explore all parts of this region. However, while conventional hotel-based holidays offer their patrons only a rather limited glimpse, Caribbean yacht charters provide a fantastic means with which to witness a far greater part of this beautiful region.

There are many great locations to charter yachts in the Caribbean, but two of the most popular are the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and the Grenadines. Whether you are interested in bareboat Caribbean Catamaran charters, or skippered yacht charter, you will find the full range of services in these locations.

In both of these locations you will find companies that offer services for both experienced and novice sailors alike. As such you will find a choice of bareboat, skippered, and luxury crewed yacht charter. You will also have to choose whether you want to cruise the Caribbean in a motor-boat or a sail-boat

Yacht Charters in the BVI (British Virgin Islands)

Located to the east of Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands form the northernmost part of the Lesser Antilles, the 400 mile long arc of mostly volcanic islands that separates the Caribbean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean.

Thanks to steady trade winds and year round sunshine, the BVI are one of the most popular destinations for Caribbean boat charter.

This really is a place to get away from it all, and as the Islands remain relatively uninhabited, you will often get the feeling that you have the Islands all to yourselves.

That is not to say that you will have any difficulty finding places to eat and drink, as there are plenty of great bars and restaurants to choose from. This is however a generally quiet and relaxed region and you won't find the kind of nightclubs and casinos that have emerged in so many other beach resorts.

The pleasures in this part of the world are far more natural and you will find that the British Virgin Islands are a great destination for swimming, snorkelling and diving.

There are wonderful coves to explore, as well as many beautiful white sandy beaches. The most vibrant scenes, however, are to be found underwater where you will find countless colourful tropical fish swimming amongst the coral reefs.

You may also choose to explore one of the areas many ship-wrecks. The wreck of the RMS Rhone is located here and it is said to be one of the best in the Western Hemisphere.

Grenadines Yacht Charter

Located to the north of Trinidad, and forming the southernmost part of the Lesser Antilles, the Grenadines are another great destination for yacht charters in the Carribean.

The Grenadines are comprised of around thirty islands and keys and offer good winds and swift line-of-sight sailing.

Like the British Virgin Islands, the Grenadines are also a great destination for diving and snorkelling, and one of the most popular dive locations is the wreck of the Jonas which is located near Mustique.

You might also like to try your hand at drift diving, a special form of diving where you allow yourself to be carried by strong underwater currents. The sensation of drift diving has been likened to that of flying and the fact that you are travel so quickly means that you get to see far a far greater range of seascapes than normal.

You should be advised however, that drift diving is more dangerous than normal diving and as such requires special training. Fortunately there are good diving schools located on St Vincent, Bequia, Mustique and the Tobago Cays.

Must-See Holidays in Spain

The best time to visit Spain is during its grand holidays. Festivities, processions and big feasts in honor of patron saints are held in different times of the year. Most of these celebrations are based on religious acts that are a vital part of the Spain culture. If you plan to visit Spain, you must take note of the holidays in Spain, their dates and activities so that you can enjoy great sight-seeing and warm feast experience.

Holidays in Spain During Summer and Spring

Spanish people make a big deal of celebrations most especially during the Holy week. For the entire week, several activities are being prepared to tide people over with something to be busy about. Spring times are made memorable because of Good Friday. During these times, processions are widely covered in the streets and in many areas around small and large cities. Other activities worth seeing are reenactments of Christ's crucifixion.

Part of the holy week celebration is remembering Christ's Resurrection on an Easter Sunday. A lot of activities are lined up during these times of the year. People come together and witness a lot of staged plays in different parts of the city. Like the Good Friday, Easter Sunday is also an important holiday in Spain.

Corpus Christi, or the body of Christ is another important activity that is being held somewhere between the end of spring and the start of summer. This is another Roman Catholic holiday where a celebration is made in honor of the Holy Eucharist's sacrament. As you can see, most holidays in Spain are anchored in the Spain culture, traditions and beliefs, being a country dominated by Roman Catholic.

In either May or June, a festivity of Corpus Christi is celebrated with a bang annually. It falls on a Sunday every after Trinity Sunday. After this event, people prepare and anticipate yet another feast during St. John's day. This falls every 24th and June and celebration starts at the eve of the 23rd. People get their acts together by coming up with bonfires. A traditional activity would be jumping over these prepared bonfires for three times. People believe that doing such will cause them to be purified from their sins. It is also believed that it can help them stay away from impending diseases or provide cure for an acquired disease. Means of celebrating St. John's day may vary from one town proper to another. Small and large cities have different ways to commemorate this day.

Holidays in Spain During Autumn and Winter

After summer and spring, more activities are lined up during both autumn and winter. The 12th day of October is a day in honor of Christopher Columbus. This man is believed to have circumnavigated the earth and that day is remembered as the day whence he set foot to the land of America. Spain consider this day as a national holiday and is extensively celebrated all throughout the country.

Don Juan Tenorio is a must-see play that is staged during All Saints Day on the first of November. Another national holiday is called the Constitution day that is celebrated on the 6th of December. This day meant taking pride in the government's transition to democratic platform. Lastly, January 6 punctuates the Christmas festivities and is more commonly known as Day of the Kings. This is in memoriam of the three wise men's visit to Baby Jesus.

Tips to Reduce Your Transportation Fare

Traveling for the holidays may seem to be taking a part out of our entire savings. But if you try to look at it closely, what makes the whole traveling expensive are the flight tickets and some local transportation. It can take up to 40% of the total traveling budget depending on the time you are planning to take the holiday and how to enjoy it.

To lessen your transportation fare, here are some helpful tips:

1. If travel time does not really matter to you, get a red-eye flight ticket. Major airlines usually give 50% discounts for a flight at night. This would really be a practical way to buy your air tickets. Some people would even prefer traveling at night to avoid the crowd.

2. Do not travel during the major holidays and school terms. Avoid these dates if you can. These are the high peak seasons for travelers. Since its holiday seasons, everyone has their own plans of traveling and because of the high demand, you will only get few discounts on tickets and hotel rooms. Some hotels and other services even raise their prices during major holidays. So you can save more if you travel outside the main holiday periods or maybe weekends.

3. To avoid overweight luggage charges, make sure to pack all your necessities within the weight limit of airline luggage. It will not only save you from overweight luggage charges but with some services that will charge you extra. For example, on your way to your hotel, the transportation service you hired may charge you extra for the overweight luggage.

4. Know and understand the different prices and services of each room. Ask the differences behind the price gaps like free meal, free laundry, and things such as surroundings and views outside the window of your hotel room. Some price gaps only has a few differences. So its better to get the one with more services offered than that with the lesser one if there's only a slight difference between the two. Or you can take the cheaper one with less services offered if you don't really need extra services.

5. One of the most effective ways to get a cheap plane ticket is to build a connection with the travel agency. Most agencies help out those who are in regular contact with them, or if its your 2nd or 3rd time to avail their services. Also, you might be one of the first people that the agency will contact for cheap offers. So it would be a big advantage for you.

Saving from your transportation expenses can really make a big difference in your whole budget for your holiday vacation. So if you want to spend less for the holidays, cut your costs on transportation. Also, be wise in choosing the services you need like hotel rooms, local transportation, and even on air transportation. Once you have cut your costs in these areas, your whole travel expenses will be reduced. You can either save the extra money or spend them to extend your stay or do some extra activities in your vacation.
