Walking in Italy

Walking tours in Italy are very popular as Italy is a very beautiful country, and has much to offer in terms of scenic beauty. It has some of the highest parts of the Alps. The villages in Italy are not only historic but also culturally rich. The place offers great wine and has a gorgeous coastline.

If you are taking a walking tour through Italy, consider going north towards the Alps. The Italian Alps have the highest mountain peak called Mont Blanc Massif, and has the amazing Dolomite range as well. This side of the Alps also has the best weather.

The Dolomites are known for beautiful limestone peaks which are very popular with mountain climbers. There are over three hundred walking trails that you can take through the mountains, and a lot of these start from the town of Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Eastern region. They also provide you the option of renting all your equipment from the town, and they even offer guided tours to tourists. You can also rent a hut while you are staying in this town.

Near the town is the Lago Di Misurina which is a beautiful lake. The villages of Passo di Gardena and Val di Badia offers tours for hikers that will take them into flower filled meadows and the red rocks in the Puez Odle Natural Park.

You can take in a different side of the Alps by going through the Apennines. This range runs next to the Mediterranean Sea all the way down to the bottom of Italy. On this route, the scenery is all about the vineyards, old villages, and great wine. Tuscany and Umbria are very cultured parts of Italy, and are definitely worth visiting if you are nearby. The European Renaissance started from here, and the region is all about architecture, tradition, and beautiful landscapes.

One of Italy’s most interesting landscapes is the Piemonte. The walk through this area will take you through very scenic landscapes that are framed by the Alps. The routes are short and gentle, so you can easily walk through these even if you aren’t very fit. The shortness of the route leaves you with plenty of time to enjoy the villages you stop in.

If you do not wish to make your walk so long, it is a good idea to do walking tours of either Rome or Venice. Both cities are very architectural and beautiful, and offer great sceneries to the tourists. Venice with its canals, street cafes, and gondolas is very charming, yet very rustic at the same time. Be prepared to have to take a boat across the canals once in a while, but overall you can really enjoy the town on your feet. Rome is filled with churches, and local tour operators’ offer many walking tours to some selected churches (visiting all of them would require months), so you can really soak in the city and its atmosphere while on your vacation.

If you are looking for a holiday that will provide you with plenty of time in the sun, and is going to be enjoyable yet challenging, then take a walking tour through one of Italy’s many regions.
